This Virtual Learning Activity highlights the integral role the cervix plays in a woman’s fertility. It presents an outline of the studies of the late Professor Erik Odeblad (Umea University, Sweden) and emphasises the complexity of the activity of the cervix during the cycle, explaining in detail the critical mechanism that exists within the woman’s body to facilitate the achievement of pregnancy. Participants will discover the significance of the cervical mucus accompanying fertility and how it makes it possible for a woman to recognize accurately on a daily basis the state of her fertility or infertility and the likely day of ovulation. This information is also valuable for all women as it enables the monitoring of reproductive health so they will quickly be alerted to any abnormal discharge and seek early medical intervention.
